[ Nice as Drizzt is, he also has a bit of a mean streak — and his kneejerk thought is to demand that Amos accept first, and promise later. Drizzt first thinks of Fane, to be honest. Fane, who is rough and inconsiderate, but so deeply caring that he cannot bear the thought of him not making it. Fane, who he wants to see continue to survive Oblivion and come forth to a new world with him. Where he may not be entirely happy or satisfied, but he will be able to see his memories and experiences live on, preserved and given to others.
He's beginning to see that Amos might not, exactly, care to extend himself that far. There's a brief flicker of understanding between them, as Drizzt clearly shifts that first desire aside ( he'll do it himself; Amos isn't someone he can trust with that ) and gives a different name. ]
