[ The psychic presence is tactile, first. Like a hand fumbling in the dark, knowing his fingers could brush up against someone at any moment and trying to avoid unwelcome contact.
Then: ]
Oh.
[ Or whatever passes for oh in Matt's mind. In this case, it's something like if a stray puff of air managed to light a candle, rather than extinguish it. The eureka moment is followed by a laugh, soda-fizz of endorphins that rises and feathers away. ]
Holy shit, you're right there, aren't you?
I mean--I think I can hear you.
Hello?

[ Twiggy dude. Seems nice!
Drizzt isn't one to judge anyone by their appearance, considering the grief he's received over his own — without letting go, he sweeps his free hand behind him invitingly. Would Matt like to take one of the seats, and make himself comfortable in Communion? ]
Things are tense here, and likely only to worsen over time, but if we can all find it in ourselves to be patient to those who are new, I think we'll all benefit. Remembering who we were before, or wanting to become better... it starts with a bit of friendliness, no?
[ Oh! ]
Speaking of friendliness: my name is Drizzt Do'urden. Welcome to Kenos.

Drizzt. Hi. I'm Matt Jamison. [ Matt thinks about waving, and his free hand appears to wave. He thinks about smiling, and smiles. ] As a newcomer, I'm biased, but I definitely agree with you.
[ As for taking a seat, Matt finds it's easy to do. Maybe because Drizzt's mind provides such a solid container through which to move, if "move" is even the word. He finds himself settling down by the campfire, its warm light catching on a hairline scar that arcs over his left cheek. Over Communion, the scar's a bit more prominent than it would be in real life.
Also, does Drizzt still have his hand? Matt's definitely not going to be the one to let go. ]
Do you mind telling me what you mean by tense? [ he asks. ] I've heard about monsters and hungry shadows, and I know there was a contest for one of these oracles that got--uh, the word she used was "creepy."

Drizzt definitely isn't the one who is going to let go. Like Matt, once he makes contact with someone who is both willing to and accepting of his touch, he sort of just — latches onto them. A quiet sort of loneliness and desperation lives within him, crushed below a layer of practicality, bleak acceptance and the instinctive defensiveness of the Hunter simmering far, far below. All this to say, he also takes a seat within his mind right next to Matt, holding the idea of his hand all the while! ]
Mm, tense. A friend of mine and I are working on monitoring some movements that worry him, though I hesitate to say for certain what they are. I do not like to cast aspersions before uncovering the facts.
[ That gets people hurt. ]
But, all of the above you mentioned goes without saying. Glad someone made sure you weren't floundering in the dark. It isn't easy, being a new hand in an old fight.

That's really mysterious, [ Matt protests, though his mental presence is warmly amused. He gets not wanting to cast aspersions, but are the movements the hungry shadows? The monsters? Who is the friend??
Still, not all intelligence-gathering has to be about specific points of data. Matt's happy enough to make contact with someone who feels like they might be an ally. He sighs, ruefulness and recognition, for the last thought that drifts his way. ]
It's hard to be a new hand anywhere, [ he says. ] But I hope I can do more good than harm. I'm gonna try my hardest.
In the meantime, I appreciate the [ hand-holding ] guidance.
