wakey wakey [ @all ]
This is a post where you'll find a header in the comments for Aetós, Agapitos Voreen, and Florence Deshayes respectively.
As a reminder from our course correction, your OOC understanding of their places in their factions should not influence IC reactions, especially to Agapitos and Florence. Aggressive threats and demands are likely to be ignored, because this would be very out of the blue to them! ( You can be mean to Aetós, though. They're a dick, and they just won't respond. )
Timewise, Agapitos and Florence's posts are shortly after Shard-Bearers awake after the repose (roughly a day to give people a chance to get their bearings/go get a haircut/etc), and Aetós's portion is later in the month.
Please note, new tag-ins will not be responded to after April 23rd. However, tagging each other throughout this post is welcome. Threadjack to your heart's content!

[ tch :/ ]
[ However. The second question is answered after a pause. In the dull sense of Communion, faintly, it seems like there could be a smile. ]
I have considered it, yes. However, I have used myself as a test subject for many other experiments. When I arrived with the first Generation, I only used myself. So, by now, there is little of myself remaining.

[ jesus christ, flat. ]
And while it's good that you've learned to talk to people to ask for their consent in being experimented on, it would be even better to give people an idea of what you will do to them. No one in their right mind will agree to being experimented on without knowing what's going to happen when the risk includes having your soul consumed by the void. You get me?

To your point, people have in the past. [ look this is a character that is long since dropped but do NOT take lessa's willingness to just for for it as normal though, ] But it is an unnecessary concern. A soul is an incredibly valuable thing. I would not let Oblivion take it. I disliked the loss of the previous Tribune to it.
[ There's conviction there, at least, but it may be less impressive with their dull affect. ]
Besides. "What" is not something I am able to discern until I see someone's Shard. There are different aspects that can be drawn out. Tweaked. Focused. So, I do not know until they are already before me. [ A pause, and then: ] It is not pleasant, however. Creating Discord in the subject is a necessary component.

[ maybe aetós will get it, maybe they won’t. but the importance of a soul resonates with flat, with a pure conviction that is neither good nor evil.
once again, he sits down to think. ]
Discord… discord… kind of like chaos. You might not know about it, but in Greek Mythology, I think they said that Chaos was the first god. Everything came after it. At least I think that’s how it went… but the point is that this Chaos guy was a huuuge void. But does the Discord attract it like a wounded animal attracts predators?

I am familiar. The realm of gods is not so separate here. As you know. [ Considering they currently have two divine Shard-Bearers and all ] But Oblivion is not quite comparable. I do not think so, at least. Chaos came first, everything else after. Oblivion seems the opposite. It follows existence.
So, yes. In a sense. I would compare it to a beacon, personally. At the height of Discord, the soul shines brightest. However, it is volatile. It makes it tricky to work with, practically speaking.

[ hmmm. ]
Has anyone lost their mind from it?

However, it is less commonly observed in Shard-Bearers who belong to a Generation. That is, who partake in the battles for the Oracles. Whether personal fortitude or something special about the soul itself, I do not know. But they tend to survive. Changed, perhaps. But whole enough.

[ he hums, thoughts running wildly like number ciphers on a short-wave radio frequency. ]
I don't know if there's any way to quantify the strength of a soul nor do I think that we can compare it to the pre-Oracle-slash-timeskip soul, unless you somehow took measurements while we were asleep—which would be weird, not gonna lie—but it kind of feels like how exercising makes your muscles stronger and builds resistance. Maybe the same thing can happen to our souls when faced with challenges?

Still. I suspect it is because of the special role a true Shard-Bearer has. Only we can interact with Oracles. So I assume that is part of it. Though that thread itself is not that interesting. What matters is simply the resilience, in the end.

[ he can understand, wanting to only focus on the interesting parts of the investigation. ]
And then… what are you gonna do with your results? Make a genetically modified soul that can resist the void or something?

What comes from it does not interest me.

I think I’d like to see what comes from it.
[ but if it’s a life that aetos wants to make, then flat will treat that life with the same fondness he feels for humans and non-humans alike.
which is a lot, actually— not unlike a human’s fondness for its pets. unable to fully comprehend, but loving all the same. ]
Do you take apprentices? Preferable not another guinea pig, but we can hash that out later.
FLAT................
It is surprising that you ask. It is work that would make you unpopular. A pariah.
[ that sure is not a "no" huh ]
:)
[ using shardbearers, with their consent? that something he can condone.
still, to be considered a pariah… well, that’s not too different from being considered a heretic among heretics. ]
Have you ever had an apprentice?

I have. Long ago. An irrelevant amount of time. But I have.

[ despite contrary belief, flat is in fact holding a healthy amount of hesitation about this. aetós’ intentions seem straightforward enough, but he’s not sure if their end goals will align at the end of it. the grand problem with seeing a far-off destination is that even the smallest differences can eventually become completely separate paths. and matt aside, it truly doesn’t seem like the public opinion of aetós is very high either.
…but, well, the insanity of a mage is something that flat can handle much better than a political struggle. and the role of a crazy scientist has always suited him much better than anything else. ]
We can run a trial, then! If we don’t mesh well, then we can say it didn’t work out. But if we do, then I want to learn from you.
[ there’s a fondness in his tone. towards who and what, though, is uncertain. ]
You can call me Flat. Flat Escardos.

You may have to work on people you know. I trust that is not an issue?
I will contact you when I am ready, Flat.

Not a problem! Playing the role of a villain is a-ok with me!
[ he says with the same cheer he has always carried himself with. ]
See you later!
