I have a question for all of you. And you may consider it a simple matter of curiosity; I won't take offense at being ignored.

[ There's a pause, as if she's collecting her thoughts. ]

How many of you are long-lived species? Or long-lived by virtue of who you are? My kind are rare, even in my world, so I can't assume others will be particularly more common here, at the end of the universe.

Sometimes a little creative application takes care of that.

Sometimes. But spells can be very specific. Like a spell for keeping warm and cozy. Or a spell for cleaning statues.

Does that cleaning spell know the difference between a stone statue and a building made of the same, in your world?

Yes, actually. It only works on specific things.

So even if the substance is the same, form matters...

Of course. It's also about visualization.

Magic is limited by your own beliefs, in a way. If you don't believe you can accomplish it, you never will.

Interesting... I'd say people in my world are lucky, then. Even if they doubt they can, it's still possible.

[ He thinks of a certain king practicing fire spells to explosive effect outside camp. ]

It's a little complicated, I suppose.

I guess, in terms of your world's magic, I may as well be a layman.

[ He considers this briefly, turning the thought about in his mind. ]
